TrichoSol™ as a base for our topical hair loss products

Most topical hair loss products that are easily available through online vendors are formulated in liquid bases that contain propylene glycol. This often cause scalp irritation or leave a greasy residue on hair, making styling difficult. This blog explores the reasons why we use TrichoSol™ as a base for all of our hair loss topical treatment formulations.

Topical hair loss treatments such as topical minoxidil or finasteride are formulated in a “base”, “vehicle” or “carrier” which delivers the medication through the skin.

A good topical hair loss base needs to be effective at delivering the medication, have a very low incidence of side effects and also be pleasant to apply to the scalp and hair.

At The Maitland Clinic, we understand that, in order for a hair loss product to be used regularly and to be well tolerated, it must not interfere with your routine hair styling choices. We have carefully researched available formulations of topical hair loss treatments in order to source products that deliver the drug effectively to the follicle and leave minimal residue on the hair.

We recommend TrichoSol™ as our preferred delivery base. TrichoSol™ is a propylene glycol-free drug delivery base formulated with gentle, non-irritating and sensory- pleasing ingredients. TrichoSol™ is a liquid base which features patented Trichoconcept™ and TrichoTech™ technology to maximise treatment results by the physiological improvement of the cellular environment within the scalp and hair follicle.

  • Provide a proven stable carrier for topical hair loss medication such as minoxidil, finasteride and dutasteride.
  • Can be used to deliver additional therapeutic agents to the hair follicle, such as caffeine, oestradiol and melatonin.
  • Trichotest™ genetic test (mouth swab) can be arranged to guide treatment decisions for TrichoSol™ hair loss products.
  • TrichoSol™ provides an easily spreadable solution that is non-irritant and does not cause hair dryness. It is applied directly to the scalp by a pipette dropper.
  • No propellants are used.
  • Products are drip-free.
  • It has a pleasant aroma.

Trichoconcept™ compounding bases for topical solutions support hair growth and a healthy scalp by restoring the hydrolipidic film, regulating sebum and calming itchiness. With patented TrichoTech™ technology, Trichoconcept™ compounding bases stimulate fibroblast growth, increasing proliferation and collagen synthesis by up to +30%.

Trichoconcept™ compounding bases act during the Neogene phase of the hair growth cycle, increasing the production of the dermal papilla while promoting hair growth.

The essential oils used in Trichoconcept™ are obtained from plants that grow in optimal conditions at an organic, ECOCERT certified plantation in Brazil. They are not subject to extreme temperature variations and the plantations are several kilometres away from urban and rural sources of pollution.

The production of the oils does not include heavy chemicals and seeds are planted manually. The exceptional quality of the oils comes from the high standards used during cultivation of the plants and the extraction of the essential oils themselves.

The Trichoconcept™ range of hair restoration compounding bases are free of:

  • Artificial colourants
  • Benzyl alcohol benzyl benzoate
  • Boric acid
  • 1,4-Dioxane
  • Formaldehyde
  • Lanolin
  • Mineral Oil Petrolatum
  • P-Amino benzoic acid
  • Parabens
  • Peanut oil
  • Propylene glycol
  • Triclosan

TrichoTech™ is a Fagron patented phytocomplex (mixture of plant extracts) that was developed for use in alopecia treatment.

The phytocomplex itself has been associated with new hair growth by stimulation of the Neogen phase (forming a new hair).

The TrichoTech™ composition contains different quantities of components found in the essential oils of 7 plants:

  • Rosmarinus officinalis
  • Lavandula officinalis
  • Eucalyptus globulus
  • Juniperus virginiana
  • Juniperus communis
  • Malaleuca alternifolia
  • Amyris balsamifera

The uniqueness of TrichoTech™ is not only due to the quality of the essential oils but also to the concentration of each oil used, allowing an effective and safe application for the proliferation of fibroblasts.

Laboratory studies on human fibroblasts show the unique combination of essential oils used in TrichoTech™ enhance fibroblast proliferation and stimulate gene expression of specific growth factors associated with hair growth (PGF-7, FGF-10).

This is important because fibroblasts are the principal active cell of connective tissue and produce collagen. Collagen aids hair growth.

TrichoTech™ has been shown to increase fibroblasts which in turn increase the production of collagen by +30%.
